When I started ministering with The Navigators more than 50 years ago, I struggled raising personal support. As I served on college campuses, and later on City, leadership, and Advancement teams, God gave me a heart to empower other gospel workers in biblical fundraising.

Every Gospel-worker faces discouragement in funding—and I was no exception. Early on, I sent appeal letters expecting results in days. They didn't come. I switched to face-to-face meetings and froze when it was time to ask. Not one person said yes.

But I kept going. A farmer in Eastern Iowa became my first "yes," and that small breakthrough changed everything.

Even now, discouragement still creeps in. Over the years I've learned that it always starts with a specific disappointment—and that there are practical, grace-fueled ways to push through it. Here's what I do today.
